Canine parvovirus disease is one of the most frequently reported infectious diseases of dogs. Dogs of all breeds are susceptible to infection with the virus.
 
The disease can occur in dogs of any age, but puppies are most often affected due to the lack or insufficient amount of parvovirus antibodies. The virus has a particular affinity for intestinal epithelial and cardiac muscle cells, which divide intensively in young organisms. The disease lasts several days and presents with symptoms of vomiting and severe diarrhea leading to dehydration.
